In this artivism project we’ll see our flawless society, perfect and utopian. It will be shown in a metaphorical way through modern and idyllic architecture.
We’ll discover the true building foundations, the architectural elements are infographics with data. These data are the representation of social injustices, they are showing us the flaws in this architecture, in our society, a flaw that breaks the perfect European Union ideal, we can read that perfection in its official «objectives and values».
This is a mix digital art project that intervenes in the new «public» space, the social media Instagram and its context which promotes idealised images, being perfect for our utopian world and its critics.
I’ve designed a dynamic game of discovery and metaphors, to generate interest in these unattractive topics for anyone in our society (because it breaks our bubble of Eurocentric happiness). With each social theme associated with each room, I want to build a building on our Instagram that represents the raw reality of the European Union.
«Utopian flaws | A breath for help» has been developed through an artistic residence in Liepaja, Latvia. Where you can perceive the actual situation in the Baltic Sea. In this new room, I’ve implemented a new workflow mixing 3D+AI, experimenting with new AI motion models.
I’ll deepen into different techniques to achieve greater attraction such as the generation of visual ASMR, hyperrealism or augmented reality filters.
I’ll encourage the viewer to being involved in the community, playing their role in our building metaphor, sharing personal reflections, comments and proposals to try to fix these flaws (solve these issues that suffer our society). Based on these ideas, the neighbors will demand solutions from our president of the neighbour community to fix them.
Utopian flaws is a non-profit project and continues to develop, keeping alive and adapting to its neighbors. So far I have worked on my own, but, for the next rooms I’m looking for funding to be sustainable and I’m working on the next room, War Impact, with new collaborators Peng Zheng (3D artist) & Diego Garcia (historian).
I’ve designed the branding based on the typography as an architectural metaphor, a window, linking the curious gaze that sneaks through the window looking to discover something interesting, in our case, being able to see the hidden data (flaws), seeing through our gaze.
Our voice and communication, will be warm, ironic, close, non-elitist and, above all, transparent. We will even have intimate moments speaking without metaphors to the viewer, being clear and honest, avoiding misunderstandings.
I will use the camera blur generated by the depth of field to create a gradient as an audiovisual resource evoking a dream, an oneiric world that is difficult to perceive, to grasp and it fades out easily.
Utopian flaws has been awarded in…
– III Ateneo Granada Awards (Best Research in Artistic Creation).
– 5P! Awards from the AAD – Asociación Andaluza de Diseñadores (Best audiovisual).
– Selected in We:Now international youth art festival.
Blablablawards, let’s see how I did it… Here we go with the making-of…
SPOILER Main goal SPOILER
The purpose of this project is not to tear down this building (the European Union), Its goal is to warn of the flaws inside of it, and we will seek solutions together to fix them.
I leave you the key to your building so you can share it with your neighbors and visit it whenever you want.
